THE SUCCUBUS

Josh was a solitary creature
With a life serene and lown
His home was a decrepit trailer
On the edge of a desert town

He grew all his own produce
And he hunted for his game
He preferred them well done
Cooked by an open flame

Josh practised clean living
But he enjoyed his cigarettes
He loved his motorbike
And he settled most of his debts

He wore a crimson flannel shirt
His red hair disheveled and rude
His arms and legs were muscular
He had a virile attitude

Josh walked among falcons and eagles
He navigated through screaming trees
Though a fallen libertarian
He consorted with strange entities

One night he retired early
After a long summer day
His hunt had been productive
In every possible way

Then he fell asleep quite soundly
In his humble trailer home
No earthly being could wake him
His snores echoed through the gloam

He found himself in the woods
Underneath a big old oak tree
The succubus approached him
She was a vision of beauty

Her hair was long and violet
And her eyes were cerulean blue
Her skin smooth and alabaster
Her gown an other-worldly hue

She introduced herself as Sierra
She was older than recorded history
The one born at the beginning of time
The succubus who seduced a Pharisee

Josh was captivated by the demon
He fell into her treacherous arms
He succumbed to the ethereal being
Who hypnotized him with all her charms

Sierra tethered him with serpents
And removed his red flannel shirt
He tasted the honey of her lips
Then made love to her in the dirt

He serenaded the succubus
As he entered her the first time
Inside her was a glacial cavern
The sensation was most sublime

Josh cried ecstatically in the night
Sierra brought a world of savage bliss
She held him captive as her love slave
And paralyzed him with her wanton kiss

The lines began to blur for them
Between illusion and reality
If it were real or just a dream
There was no proof of actuality

The hours of their tryst felt like days
While Josh was under the succubus's spell
But he would never learn the truth
Sierra was born from the fires of Hell

She brought him carnal pleasure
But he was yet to pay the price
When he least expected it
There would be a great sacrifice

Crooked vultures circled around them
As his queen seduced him playfully
The lithe demon born in the stone age
Ravaged him often and recklessly

Sierra brought him ambrosia
He accepted it in the nocturne
But he never stopped to wonder
What he would have to give in return

Josh discovered his life was expiring
When Sierra loved him for the last time
Like a Siren, she lured him to his death
She extinguished his fire in his prime

Bonus! I may have a temp job assisting a writer (needlepoint reference book) in July and August. Could provide good contacts/reference, will help me brush up on my book publication skillz, and will give me a little extra pocket money. Not much, but better than minimum wage.
