i tend to like cover bands because they usually have some sort of thing that makes the songs their own, as with me 1st and hayseed (who i like but had forgotten about, thanks for the refresher).

Birdsongs of the Mesozoic do a cover of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Theme that has to be heard to be believed. Sounds like a pipe organ being played by a demon on acid.

There's a country band that does a cool cover of JIMMY CLIFF's "THE HARDER THEY COME"-
but I can't remember the name of the band right now...

A few more:

Mötley Crüe's cover of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter"

Quiet Riot's cover of Slade's "Cum On Feel The Noize"

Blind Guardian's cover of The Beach Boys' "Surfin' USA"

Carcass' cover of Neil Young's "Keep On Rocking In The Free World" (Though they replaced "Rocking" with "Rotting" & changed most of the lyrics...)

Children Of Bodom's cover of Andrew WK's "She Is Beautiful"

Cronic Disorder's cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues"

Deceased's cover of The Doors' "Not To Touch The Earth"

More later.

Nevermore...

Huh... when I was in college I dated a guy from a band called Chronic Disorder. He was a dick, but I was a cheating bitch, so I probably deserved it. If it's the same band, they did a pretty okay cover of "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay" for the soundtrack of some goofy Susanna Hoffs movie in the late 80's. They didn't make it onto the released soundtrack, though.

First of all, was it a death Metal band? Second, were they from North Carolina? Third, were their names Doug Canipe, Chip Whitesides, Brad Sellers, and James Ford? If so, same band, must've changed the spelling of the name. If not, they must've been the reason this band had to change the spelling of their name. Cool

Nevermore...

Nope - punk band out of Connecticut, and now based in Tacoma... their stuff were too hard for the movie soundtrack's release, but I'm sure they aren't crying too much about it. They weren't metal though, definitely punk. Well... post-punk, I guess, but you get the picture...

Just heard this cover today. Really liked it.

More Than This -- Division Day (Original: Roxy Music)

They gave the song a slow, haunting feel.
Pretty neat.

Saw the video for Fall Out Boy's cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" this week. I'm not a big fan of the band, but I thought it was pretty good. I've gotta believe a band would really have to stink on ice to ruin "Beat It"--with that killer guitar riff, it seems to me to be impervious to suck-ish-ness. (My son tells me it's John Mayer playing the infamous riff on the recorded version.) One thing that skews it for me is the singer's voice: it is a strong, unique instrument but it's a bit strident for me. He seems to be straining a bit on the high C and landing hard on A in the first line of each verse (assuming they're playing it in D minor, which is what it sounds like to me).

Big fan of covers ... especially like women covering men and vice versa ...

My new current fave played at the end of the season finale of Brothers and Sisters is Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" by Ellen McIlwaine

Anybody doing "Jackson" but in particular Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood (friggen' hilarious)

Fiona Apple singing Jimi Hendrix "Angel"

Have a few "Little Wing" covers ... all good.

I have a cover of Woodstock, don't know who the artist is, (a woman) ... it's awesome. (Eva Cassidy)

Matt Weddle's "Hey Ya" makes me unhate that song. Smile

I have a shitload of Beatle's covers, won't list them all ... most are good. Sure I'll think of more later, I need to go figure out who sang "Woodstock."

OOohhh... yeah I really love the CSN / CSNY cover of Woodstock. Another of my brainfarts to have missed it on my original post. Embarassed

Here are a couple others I kind of like:
Charlotte Summer cover of The Cure's Just Like Heaven
Jason Mraz cover of Rainbow Connection, although no Kermit, is pretty good
the STP cover of Led Zepplin's Dancing Days
Mott the Hoople cover of Bowie's All the Young Dudes
There's an acoustic cover of Lou Reed's Sweet Jane but I just can't remember who the singer is.

there's always more, I just can't come up with them.

I'm always drawing blanks when I'm here-
you should ask me at work, where I don't have computer access... Rolling Eyes

Wonko, ANGEL also did a cover of "ALL THE YOUNG DUDES"-
not to mention "WALK AWAY RENEE" & "AIN'T GONNA EAT OUT MY HEART ANYMORE"...

BURNS & SIDEBURNS did a cover of "VENUS IN FURS", complete with mandolins & fiddles-
wish I had a copy...

Recently realized that lots of bands have covered MOVE songs, but that's kind of in reverse-
what if the song you like is a cover but you don't know it?

Think that was Waco Brothers...

Maybe only the Brits on the board will get this one: Psychotic Youth's punk cover of Aneka's 'Japanese Boy'. Complete with male vocalist.
