*** this is for all you who were disappointed that the other thread was for comedians and not comic books*********

I have never really read comic books.
I do like comic strips (in the newspaper) though...

I have always loved Batman, X-Men, and others I can't think of right now...

I want to read a graphic novel, specifically "Watchmen" but, "hubby" says
he doesn't want me to buy it because he doesn't think I'll like it...anyway...
I also want "V for Vendetta", even if I don't like reading it I want it because I loved the movie!!

Um, you should read WATCHMEN, the movie comes out this year-
my friendly ex sent me a copy a few years ago... Wink

See, I married a comic book geek so I get to hear all about various superheros over dinner-
the only one I remember reading was SPIDERMAN, aside from various Golden Key comics...

*waits for the geek squad to pounce*

Vampire Lover - I have two copies of Watchmen, if you want one of them, just let me know. It's awesome. And you should read it as it was written, not just see the movie, since Alan Moore has hated EVERY translation of his work to the big screen.

Yeah, I'd read anything Moore puts out. I've mentioned before, I even bought the marginal erotica he published a couple years ago, called Lost Girls.

One of my favorite comic books ever had a fight between The Hulk and The Thing in it. I don't have the comic # off the top of my head, but I laughed so hard I almost peed when I realized the sound word for one of them falling was "RAKALAM".

I'll see if I can find it on the bookshelf, and I'll post the info if I do.

wheee!
well i'm a comic geek to an extent.
I freaking loved "the watchmen and V for Vendetta, I love Batman when it's written by Frank Miller, There was also a really neat Arkaham Assylum graphic novel that had amazing art and a great story but i can remember who created that one. I have the sin city collection and i enjoy alot of frank miller. I'm also HUGE into Sandman right now, and I've read the majority of the Fables graphic Novels. I'm sometimes a cliche goth and I love anything written by Johnen Vasquez, and his Johhny the Hommicidal Maniac series, Squee and I Feel Sick. I also enjoy X-men, and reading the old spiderman, superman, and batman comics because they're delightly racist and sexist.... www.superdickery.com
i got a super geek boner when i seen the Wolverine trailor and realized gambit is in it Smile hoping they wont kill it like the other marvel movies.
But yeah...
i like comics and the whole super hero/super villian idea... when i grow up i want to be a super villian. Laughing

I LOVED the "Watchmen" and "Sandman" series. Recently I've been sucked into "Ex Machina" and "Runaways." Next on the list is "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."

That superdickery site is hilarious!

Normally I'd say a cover like this is wrong on so many levels, but really, it's just one level of wrong.

Books (I generally read more manga cuz I can find it free online)

The Crow (my first foray into comic books)
Naruto (I know it's for boys and kinda crappy, but I've been sucked in by fandom {and the smut})
Akumetsu (It's got balls and it's funny/morbid)
Faster than a Kiss (it's cute and I've thing for May/December romances)
Koi Kaze (subject matter is more than a bit squicky, but it's beatifully done)
Skip Beat (cute and I used to fancy myself an actor)
Until Death Do Us Part (what's not to like about a blind guy who kicks much ass)

Characters
Hatake Kakashi (What? He's awesome. I so hope he's not really dead)

Juts finished reading "V is for Vendetta." It was good, but it didn't click with me the way "Watchmen" did. I think it was mostly an art hang-up. The comic had this weird washed-out pastel colorization. It kinda looked like the book had been run through the washer a few times.

Watchmen is like one of the top 100 novels (not just graphic novels) ever: http://www.time.com/time/2005/100books/0,24459,watchmen,00.html

It's at least 18 shades of awesome. The whole 12 issue series is symmetrical from frame 1 to the last frame. It's an amazing work of art. You will probably like it.

Others up high on my list: Swamp Thing (especially Alan Moore's stint in Saga ot ST where Constantine is introdued), Star Wars (the original 130 issue or so series that started with 6 issues of A New Hope), the short lived Captain Carrot, Batman (especially Frank Miller, but also Doug Moench and Neal Adams), Jonah Hex, The Warlord, cheesey horror titles like House of Mystery, Electric Warrior, and Teen Titans circa the "New" series with George Perez pencilling.

"The Watchmen." If they fuck up the movie, I'm putting a contract out on somebody. Many somebodies.

"Strangers In Paradise." Lost its way for a while in the middle, but finished nicely.

The first 180 issues of "Cerebus".

"The Sandman," except for the first few issues while Gaiman was finding his feet. He still needs to write the story of the Fall, tho, wherein Despair and Desire split into twins and Delight becomes Delirium.

"The Killing Joke." Best Batman story ever.

"Miracleman", both the Moore and Gaiman runs. Will Gaiman ever finish the last two arcs?

I'm consistently loving "Fables."
