Zen's HARDCORE CRANBERRY SAUCE
HARDCORE CRANBERRY SAUCE
1 can whole cranberries
1 pint frozen strawberries, thawed
splash of key lime juice
habanero or cayenne pepper (if you want it hardcore- the amount is up to you)
Put cranberries & half of strawberries in blender, chop until mixed. Add juice, remaining strawberries, & pepper if using- chop until smooth. Put the mixture in the fridge to chill & thicken.
Warning: Leave out the pepper if you're serving this to wimps!
You can always add the hot stuff to a small portion of it later...
BTW, if you add some rum, it makes a pretty good daiquiri!

Well, it's that time of year & I made some of this last night-
had to do it a bit differently, though...
It was a pint & a half of strawberries & 2 cans of cranberries-
but these 2 flavors blend so well that the taste is nearly the same-
the big change was that we couldn't get the blender work so we had to dig out the ancient hand blender...
How old is that blender?
The on button is avocado green- I swear I didn't remember they'd making them that long...
But it's good, I even put some on my apple pie-
had quite a party going on in my mouth with that & the cayenne-cocoa...
This year, we should make it on time to Thanksgiving dinner with my new in-laws
so I'm taking enough for everyone-
nope, didn't add the hot stuff (though that'd make dinner entertaining)
but I'm taking my Dave's shaker with 6 kinds of heat for my own amusement...

It's about that time again, so I moved this to the top of the cookbook a little early this year-
y'all craving cranberries yet?

That reminds me: I still have cranberries in the freezer from last year. Started adding them to cook with my oatmeal in the morning this week. Tastes great, and doesn't need added sugar or sweetener. (Ground cinnamon does the trick.) _________________ "If you allow yourself to be offended, then you're a bit of [a] nitwit."

OK, had to use 3 cans of cranberry this time- I swear they shrunk the cans!
We've already had some sauce with our pre-Thanksgiving dinner-
I think this would be good in oatmeal or cream of wheat for that matter, may have to try it...

Whole cranberry sauce is good on plain yogurt. _________________ "If you allow yourself to be offended, then you're a bit of [a] nitwit."

Also good on vanilla- yogurt or ice cream!
My in-laws took some home with them so they may come up with some new ideas...

Got the usuals, plus some real key limes & a brand new blender-
now all I gotta get is a habanero...
Edit: We used 6 tiny limes & it's better if you put them in first-
couldn't find a habanero but it was awesome!
Next up, we try it on the pumpkin cheesecake...
