They gather in the basement
Of the Seventh Street café
They sit in a small circle
Joining hands in a taut way
They stare at the ouija board
The glass refuses to move
The medium calls the ghosts
They have nothing to prove
Communing with the dead
Is a mysterious profession
Sometimes they are stubborn
As if to teach one a lesson
They wait for ten minutes
Then the glass slides to the right
It spells the word "Hello"
But it really means "Goodnight"
The spirits don't take kindly
To those who disturb their sleep
There's no time for idle chat
They have covenants to keep
The seance ends half an hour later
In the end nothing is learned
The medium collects her cash
The table has overturned
It was a careless proceeding
The departed hate to come undone
They have business to attend to
The supernatural waits for no one

NIGHTMARE ALLEY
The cloud is terribly dark
It looks like an inverted funnel
There's no way to avoid it
Except to hide inside the tunnel
The cars and trailers fall apart
Like toys in a sandbox
Nothing escapes the destruction
As time turns on the clocks
The power is knocked out
All the telephone lines are down
The water mains have broken
There's a disaster in this town
There is an ominous sound
Like a metal guitar strumming
It's time to run for your life
The deadly twister is coming

LEAH
Her parents were old-fashioned
Her mother was a schoolteacher
She was sent to Bible School
Since her father was a preacher
She conceived a child at sixteen
High school had just begun
And something seemed to mock her in
Those looks from everyone
She was running out of time
There was no money for an abortion
She didn't tell the culprit
He'd only accuse her of extortion
She thought of a solution
It would expel the misery
She found a wire hanger
To terminate the pregnancy
It would be over soon
And no one would ever know
But when the cord was cut
Nothing could stop the blood flow
They found her in the closet
Where all her clothes were hung
She didn't want the baby
Because she was too young

JUDAS
You like to stab me in the back
And twist the knife
And I want to tell you simply
To get a life
You sweet talk me to my face
But you bad mouth me behind my back
But I learn to let it go
As I listen to Massive Attack
Your name is betrayal
And you are no friend of mine
When you finally leave me
Everything will be just fine
And with friends like you
No one needs enemies
I don't know what's true
Your lies are a disease
You like to stab me in the back
And twist the knife
In the end I am just grateful
I'm not your wife

VAMPIRES AND LIGHTNING
Vampires are just like lightning
They glow in the moonlight
They always seem so frightening
When they light up the night
From nowhere they appear
To brighten up the day
And then they disappear
Nothing stands in their way
They're powerful and severe
They put you in a state of shock
Maybe there are vampires here
They could be just around the block
So charming and alluring
They're seductive and supreme
Their strength is enduring
And they like to hear you scream
They creep up behind you
When you are most unaware
There's nothing you can do
They give you a giant scare
Their appetite is insatiable
They take away your last breath
Like a dragon from an old fable
They can lead you to your death
Vampires are just like lightning
They're much quicker than a horse
Yet they make life exciting
They're a supernatural force

THE PHANTOM HARLOT
The wandering man stumbled into town
In a jet black Mercedes Benz
He needed to put affairs in order
To say goodbye to his friends
He spied a pale raven-haired beauty
She wore a black dress and cape
Her gossamer stockings clung tightly
They greatly enhanced her shape
She walked to the end of a sidewalk
As the street lamp lit up her face
There was an ethereal tone about her
This woman of uncommon grace
She appeared to be waiting for someone
But he approached her nevertheless
He desired to endear himself to her
With heartbeats that were relentless
He introduced himself to her
As a lonely wandering man
She said her name was Lorelei
And was visiting from Spokane
He asked for her company
But she told him she had a price
He could love her for the night
For a somewhat small sacrifice
He slipped her several dozen bills
And walked her to his car
Then he drove her to his hotel room
Which wasn't very far
He received everything he wanted
His curiosity would never tire
The phantom harlot was his servant
Lorelei fulfilled his heart's desire
Then shortly after midnight
He feel asleep right in her arms
Powerless under her spell
A slave to her erotic charms
He woke up the morning after
A couple hours past dawn
And found himself alone again
The phantom harlot was gone
He decided to take a shower
Then he put on an elegant suit
He washed away the previous night
Before the memories could take root
As he approached the foreboding door
He found a note on his table
The handwriting was obviously hers
The script was unmistakable
She said she wouldn't forget him
And did it for his peace of mind
She hadn't the heart to take his bills
Her words were comforting and kind
Underneath the note lay his money
Returned to him just as the note declared
So he replaced it in his wallet
An ending for which he wasn't prepared
He locked up the room two minutes later
Approaching autumn ushered in his fall
He thought of her when he died of cancer
The phantom wasn't a harlot at all

A GOOD MAN
He lived to play his national sport
And was a model student and son
He spent most of his waking hours
Enriching the lives of everyone
He liked to live in the fast lane
There was no slowing him down
He never stopped to catch his breath
As he came and left this town
His sense of humor made me happy
Being with him was being alive
He made me want to better myself
With his determination and drive
I once doubted his commitment
Because he seemed so cavalier
But now I would give anything
If I could only have him here
Feeling guilt of having complained
About this boy who was my friend
I didn't know then what I know now
Little things are nothing in the end
His smile lit up the room
And made the monotony disappear
I was glad to know him
Before the end of his final year
There was no graduation for him
Because there was no time to bother
I put his picture in my album
Next to my father and his father
Just having the time of his life
Before he quickly slipped away
No one will ever forget him
Or his spirit on that winter day

JEZEBEL
Jezebel was a fair-haired child
Who felt no love or remorse
She monopolized the playground
And wore out her rocking-horse
The whole world was her oyster
A pawn in her vicious games
She didn't play well with others
And she called them malicious names
One day she came home from school
Her mother had a surprise
She soon would have a baby
Right before Jezebel's eyes
Jezebel was perturbed
She didn't know what to do
Would she have to share her mother?
Was there room enough for two?
Those nine months passed by quickly
While Jezebel drove her teachers crazy
She never did her homework
And was the epitome of lazy
Then one sunny day in June
Jezebel's mother took her leave
The baby would be birthing
One hour before the summer's eve
Born after ten hours of labor
The infant was a pretty little girl
She was like a ray of sunshine
Her mother decided to name her Pearl
Jezebel refused to hold the new baby
And she felt extremely angry
No longer the center of attention
She was filled with such jealousy
She worried about her inheritance
Would the baby steal it all away?
So she crept inside the nursery
And smothered her sister the next day
The investigation was completed
It was merely labeled a crib death
After many years of bereavement
Her mother quit using crystal meth
But Jezebel was never gloomy
Her selfish needs were fulfilled
And she was evil incarnate
She had an empire to build
Her teenage years were difficult
She was a troublesome youth
No man was immune to her wrath
Her lack of ethics was uncouth
With her looks, she became a model
Then an actress in Hollywood
She earned her roles in devious ways
And was always up to no good
Then when her career was waning
It interrupted her bliss
So she hired a savage bully
To take out her nemesis
The director had a heart attack
It was Jezebel who found him dead
Then she looked for the film's producer
And secretly slept with him instead
The producer received a message
From one of Jezebel's old boyfriends
He was advised to cut his losses
Before she resorted to vile ends
And then the morning after
He broke the news to Jezebel
She seemed to take the news fine
And it seemed that all was well
But Jezebel was nothing but evil
She constructed a sinister plan
When he was unaware and distracted
Then she would destroy the little man
Before the old producer left her home
She made him a pot of clam chowder
After stirring in the salt and pepper
She added a subtle white powder
Jezebel served the potion to him
She told him she had already dined
Then she watched him as he slurped away
And the poison entered his mind
Belladonna gripped the producer
He was one of the hollow men
For he entered an eternal sleep
And then he never spoke again

SPIRIT
I never wanted to see this day
And I hoped it would never arrive
All I can do for him is pray
And remember when he was alive
He filled my world with light
Since the first day I met him
After this mournful night
I never will forget him
Loss comes hand in hand with love
They are intermingled in time
I think of his soul above
Love in death is somehow sublime
With each day comes a new dawn
The sun shines hope in every ray
The spirit always lives on
After the body has faded way
I will always remember his face
Whenever I look up at the sky
He filled my life with laughter and grace
Memories of him will never die

BLOOD
Blood flows through my veins
It keeps me alive
My days in the sun
All the nine to five
Blood carries the oxygen
Straight to my heart
It helps me to concentrate
Make a fresh start
Blood filters the wastes
One end to another
I can donate it
To my older brother
Blood is the essence
We need it to live
Without it, we're lost
It's in us to give

VINCENT
Your ego is like an island
You want me to worship you
But your head is full of sand
No one buys your point of view
Why will you not leave me?
I hear your voice everywhere
Why can't you let me be?
I don't want you, this I swear
Vincent, you don't care
The only one you love is you
You break hearts everywhere
This much I know is true
Vincent, you're a tool
I don't care for you anymore
Did you take me for a fool?
I'm not the girl I was before
You're losing your grip
I don't listen to you anymore
Go take an acid trip
I'm tired of fighting this war
I will not be your slave
I am not at your command
You're an arrogant knave
Now I have to take a stand
Vincent, you're insane
If you think I'll follow you
You've got shit in your brain
You really have no clue
Vincent, you're so blind
You're aloof to everyone
You're always so unkind
When all is said and done
I don't need you anymore
Your narcissism only bores me
All those words I'll just ignore
You'll be an unimportant memory

THE GAME
It's what defines us
And it's our identity
It's more than a game
It's our nationality
Gretzky, Coffey, and Messier
Those were the days
They gave us those memories
With their winning ways
It's always the same
Just play the game
Win, lose or tie
They all know your name
Kiprusoff and Iginla
They were another story
One step at a time
They captured the glory
It's always the same
Just play the game
This sport is the best
The others are lame
Gordie Howe and Guy Lafleur
They were one of a kind
Bobby Clarke and Bobby Hull
Left all the others behind
It's always the same
Just play the game
When the team loses
They all share the blame
Rockets and Lightning
Eric Lindros and Mario Lemieux
They sparked our interest
They were part of the chosen few
It's always the same
Just play the game
Get with the program
Ignite the Flame
We mourned the Great One
Then came Sidney Crosby
He restored the faith
And brought us to ecstasy
It's always the same
Just play the game
Share in the victory
Join the Hall of Fame
To others it's crazy
But it's who we are
It fuels the fire
It's our shining star

DEADWOOD
You wanted to be young forever
That was your old self talking
These days you feel like a zombie
Just like a dead man walking
Your knees begin to tremble
Karma kicks you in the head
You even start to ponder
If your will should live instead
The younger talent leaves you behind
And you cannot keep up with them
You try to make amends for the past
To cut the evil at the stem
The hopes of your youth have vanished
Your dreams have fallen into the mire
Those people working beneath you
Are itching for you to retire
Things never worked out the way you planned
Fate is like a ton of lead
You wonder what the world would be like
When you are finally dead
But you won't throw in the towel
You can't admit defeat
You're not finished with your mission
Stand up and take the heat
Time is a valuable thing
It's more precious than gold
You can't afford to waste it
When you realize you're old

THE LAST TRAIN
The shopgirl had to stay out late
She worked the evening shift
The clock tick-tocked until midnight
Then she walked toward her lift
She arrived at the station
And redeemed her subway token
Insects crawled on the concrete
Over bottles that were broken
She didn't notice the young outcast
Who traveled two steps behind her
She forgot to travel with a friend
There was no one to remind her
She merely thought of her apartment
It was only two stops from there
This was how the monster entrapped her
Who would become her worst nightmare
At thirteen minutes after midnight
The last train rolled down the track
She boarded the middle subway car
And there was no turning back
The fiend entered the center car
And sat across the aisle from her
He watched and waited patiently
Taking care not to cause a stir
Her stop beckoned in the distance
Then she arose from her seat
She touched a tissue to her face
To wipe off the summer heat
She disembarked the subway car
And stepped onto the escalator
He followed her to the exit
But the outrage occurred later
As he stalked her up the staircase
He pulled his hood over his head
The full moon did intensify
This atmosphere of fear and dread
She left the subway station
And began to walk the path
Then he grabbed her from behind
He became a psychopath
The creep forced her into a dark alley
While he stifled her futile scream
As he violated her senselessly
She hoped it was only a dream
He seemed to have no conscience
And was high on crack cocaine
He wiped away her memories
With a sharp blow to her brain
Then then coward fled the scene
The thug thought he could get away
But he forgot the camera
On the ceiling of the subway
The villain could run but he couldn't hide
Soon his picture was everywhere
He couldn't escape the arm of the law
He left behind a strand of hair
The felon was apprehended
Using a photo and DNA
When he was put in isolation
The psychopath had nothing to say
The prisoner was bound in his shackles
His guilt was obvious to everyone
They escorted him to the silver chair
Then the execution was finally done
Nothing would ever bring her back
No punishment could fit the crime
She is an angel in heaven
Who is immortalized in in time

ANN COULTER
Ann Coulter took an airplane
It was on its way to France
For a clandestine meeting
And a cemetery dance
She left with her bodyguard
A seven foot man named Jules
She needed some protection
From politicians and ghouls
Clearly it was a long flight
So she tried to take a nap
She rested on Jules' shoulder
Till the plane went off the map
There was a loud announcement
The pilot encountered turbulence
He was doing all he could
And humbly asked for their patience
The plane flew 'round in circles
There was just no stopping it
As it journeyed to the ground
Ann was heard to mutter "shit"
They crashed in the middle of nowhere
The plane landed in an arid desert
Countless people were killed or injured
Ann was knocked unconscious but not hurt
Then she woke up two days later
And was lying in a large tent
She was surrounded by nurses
They hovered around the casement
They asked for her identity
But she was unable to remember
She wondered the time and the place
It was the middle of September
She was a stranger in a strange land
The nurses decided to call her Monique
She was released seven days later
Into the care of a wealthy sheik
They rode his magic carpet
And they flew to his majestic lairs
They parked on a marble roof
And he carried her down many stairs
She was grateful for his company
He fed and clothed her for weeks
The sheik bought her diamonds and pearls
He put color in her cheeks
They rode on his sacred camel
Into the hot desert sun
They became a perfect couple
In the eyes of everyone
They made love in the sand dunes
It was a very unlikely romance
Then he asked her for her hand
While he still had a ghost of a chance
On bended knees he proposed to her
She said she would marry him
But there was only one condition
She would convert to Muslim
She embraced the world of Islam
Before she wedded the sheik
Then they left on their honeymoon
Their love was quite unique
Then they celebrated Ramadan
Before they adopted a child
And their family flew to Mecca
Where the weather was quite mild
There was no more Ann Coulter
She was phased out of the earth
There was a new human being
A great woman of real worth
