It was A) in Ohio and B) In Monroe. There was a point to be made. Those who have been there will know the truth.

Also, they have started to rebuild it out of metal so this cannot happen again. Like that is going to help.

Oh, well. Meanwhile, the statue of Mary in front of St. John's church downtown in the past week or so has gotten a new paint-job. She had been pure white all over for as long as I could remember; now her outer robe is blue, with a black shadow under her head-covering. But behind the church, the statue of Joseph holding baby Jesus still hasn't gotten any comparable upgrade -- compared to the tank they're guarding:

I don't see any theological difficulty in all of this.

God made this a world of cause and effect and if whatever natural forces determine that lightning will strike the ground in a certain spot, it doesn't matter what manmade object is in the way.

That said, I'm glad they're replacing it with something more durable. I like seeing religious symbols around, whether it be those of my own religion or others because they serve as a reminder that man strives for something greater than how much "stuff" he can accumulate.
