Not strictly travel writing as the chap lives in these places, but source out books by J Maarten Troost, starting with "The Sex Lives Of Cannibals". Funny stuff and I am sure he got the idea for his book titles from Chris.

That reminds me, I was waiting for the last one to go into paperback & I guess it has by now-
fuck, I could get it in my own store if I remember...

It has. It is called "Lost in(on?) Planet China". Not as outright funny as his first two, but very interesting and probably better written.
