Newborns are perfect for travel: they are extremely portable and compact.
The problem arises when packing -- the sheer volume of accessories necessary for newborns strains credulity. Even on short jaunts to friends' houses, I found myself taking practically everything we owned for the kid, just in case... But I learned the hard way: if I didn't bring it, I would need it.
