Got it:
"Even though your novel may be written in the third perosn, write your synopsis in the first [his italics] person to give it a feeling of immediacy... (p. 141, Attention-Grabbing Query & Cover Letters, John Wood).
But I don't see how this is possible. For one thing, the example he gives for introducing characters are third person. And -- just think about it -- how would it read?
Yet he does say it and italicise it.
Go figure...
