FattyFattyPorkFace' Nan's Tomato and Onion Sandwich  Reply with quote

I know, I know, it sounds horrible. But oh no...tis too nice.

Tomato
Onion
Bread
Margarine or other butter-like spread
A sharp knife
Ground black pepper
Salt

Thinly slice the tomato (each slice should be about an eighth of an inch or so). Thinly slice the onion (and I mean thin, like wafer thin). Lightly butter/margarine/low fat spread the bread. Lightly season the spread bread slices with the ground pepper and salt. Add the tomato and onion onto a slice of bread and then complete the sandwich by adding a second slice of seasoned spread bread.

For an added little taste, thinly spread the slices with Heinz Salad Cream (Mayonnaise might do...but I don't think so) after the butter but before seasoning.

It really is yummy as long as you don't add too much onion. I miss my Nan.

Doesn't sound horrible at all. One of my favorite summer lunches is to take a thick slice of tomato, a thin slice of onion, and a slice of baby mozzarella, sprinkle a teeny bit of salt, pepper, and basil on it, and stick it under the broiler just until the cheese melts. Mmmm.

My Grandma from Oklahoma used to make this same sandwhich, though she used bacon grease in place of butter. I never tasted it because it just sounds, vile.

Sliced tomatoes and onions as a combo are great for any savory dish.
