Fluke-Lust Lizard connection?

I read Fluke for the first time about a month ago. I read Lust Lizard a year or so ago and just finished rereading it today. A question - and I will eventually try to find the answer to this myself, of course. At the very end of Lust Lizard, Steve is moping in the deep trench, and then he picks up a signal along the lines of “Hey, there, want to have a good time?” (or something like that - the book is in my car, and I'm tired to go get it right now). Now I seem to recall the whale ships in Fluke sending just such a message, so of course I’m thinking that’s who Steve is hearing. Does this sound right to anyone here?

I would think not.... simply because a whale ship wouldnt be in the trenches. Also in Lust Lizard it said the message was coming from the female ... which was a signal he hadn't heard in half a century. Im thinking he finally found one of his own kind and they made baby lust lizards.
