I love books that make me laugh, since I am a hilarious person in general. These are my personal favorite comic masterpieces:
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
Fierce invalids home from hot climates by Tom Robbins
Another roadside attraction by Tom Robbins
Penguin Island by Anatole France
Indecent Exposure by Tom Sharpe
Wilt by Tom Sharpe
Porterhouse Blue by Tom Sharpe
Bigger than Hitler Better than Christ by Rik Mayall
Blott on the Landscape by Tom Sharpe
Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon
A Dirty Job by christopher moore
These are only books I have read recently. I reread A Dirty Job last week actually, thinking of rereading Fluke after I finish The Dubliners

Kurt Vonnegut (may he rest in peace) is one of the funniest authors I have ever read, and he is definitely my favorite American writer.

Laurie Notaro - any book. I especially love her The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club and There's a (Slight) Chance I Might Be Going to Hell: A Novel of Sewer Pipes, Pageant Queens, and Big Trouble
David Sedaris Me Talk Pretty One Day. I can totally relate to his hell of trying to learn French as an adult. I can speak dirty French flawlessly. Ask me to introduce myself and I'm a blank. It's like I have French tourettes. Holidays on Ice is also a good read, especially between Thanksgiving and New Years. A family that denies together can celebrate together.
I also enjoy Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels and his nursery crimes. _________________ I'm a whooore for Moore.

One of the things I "inherited" from my Dad when he emigrated to a tiny island in the Med was a huge book of the original radio transcripts of Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Why is it so funny (apart from being by Douglas Adams, of course)?
Well, every couple of pages or so he talks about where he got the ideas from and tells little stories of funny and bizarre things that happened to him. Bloody hilarious.
Other authors that make me laugh with their books:
Carl Hiaason (especially Skin Tight),
Terry Pratchett (especially the Night Watch books),
Janet Evanovich. _________________ One day I'm going to be famous for inventing a machine that enables you to poke people in the eye over the internet.
