If I'd thought of 'Chasing Amy' at the time I'd definately have recommended it. I've noticed, tho, that there's a definate generational difference between the folks who prefer it and those who prefer 'Jersey Girl.'

Me, I like 'em both - and am waiting for 'Passion of the Clerks' (at ten-years-later sequel to 'Clerks', in production.)

I like Chasing Amy better because the speeches in it are epic. Smith was writing his ass off in that one.

I totally agree. This is my favorite Kevin Smith movie. The funny parts are very funny and the serious parts are very moving.

Jenny, since you have Rushmore on your list, you should also add Wes Anderson's first movie, Bottle Rocket. Owen Wilson is hilarious in this one.

Wow I could probably spend the rest of my life on that site. I better never go there again.

In the Bedroom if you haven't seen it. Sissy Spacek stars.

A sort of old school mystery/thriller movie I loved was "Dead Again". I saw it for the first time about 3 years ago and scissors still creep me out.

Sort of newer movies I loved (mainly for the cinematography) were "Hero" and the "Crouching Dragon - Tiger" movie (I never get the name right-sorry).

Currently I'm sort of collecting Monty Python (always good for a laugh) and a few anime flix (Samuari X is one of my favs!!)

Good choices, y. I liked all of those (except for the anime....I don't know that I've seen any of it).

We had to find the fish slapping dance yesterday so my son and nephew could see it. They're hooked already (they're six years old).

I think "Spirited Away" is a great intro into anime - if you can get over the whole whiney kid voices and if your not weirded out by spirts and things. The other movies and such I like are hard to find (mostly imports) like the Ranma 1/2 series and of course, the state side classic - "Sailor Moon"!

I just joined Netflix since I was so frustrated by my last trip to the video store. I've already added a pile of movies to my queue, and I've been through the threads we've already posted here, but what else would you guys recommend? Give me some titles. (But leave AvP off the list, please...) Very Happy

Sorry but I'm still too lazy to log in. You know who I am. Do you like foreign films? Do you like something with a lot of symbolism and goofiness in it. Would you like something along the lines of Greek mythology and carnival time in Rio? I have five suggestions:

Black Orpheus (Definitely on the Orpheus Eurydice myth)
Antonia's Line (really goofy and really like screwy Dutch people)
The Triplets of Belleville (very goofy)
Army of Darkness (ultimate in goofy and not as bloody as Evil Dead)
Hebrew Hammer (Andy Dick plays Santa Claus who's trying to get rid of Hanukah)

They have more than just movies at netflix, if you are so inclined, you can watch tv shows too. My fiancee watched the first 3 seasons of 24 in about 3 weeks, since he couldn't manage to keep track of them during the year. Plus, no waiting for cliffhangers!

I am working my way through several british shows, Yes, Minister, for example.
I was watching Ballykissangel, but they only have 1 or 2 series, which is a bummer. Hopefully, they'll get more someday.

But movies are nice too!

Yes, I like foreign films. And these sound interesting. I know hubby's seen Army of Darkness before. I think I'd like Black Orpheus and The Triplets of Belleville. I'll have to check them out...

Yep. My kids are working their way through Pee Wee's Playhouse right now. Smile And I just got the first disc of The Prisoner for hubby to watch.

I do have some mini-series queued up too. Brideshead Revisited and I, Claudius are in there, I know. I think there are a couple others too.

I just watched I {heart} Huckabees last night.

Very, very, very strange movie. From the trailer I thought it was about a family like the Royal Tannembaums, but, in fact, it's about an existential detective agency. I think you should watch it. It is a very, very, very strange movie. But I think I liked it.
