Barnes and Noble University class on ADJ  Reply with quote

I thought everyone would like to know that BN university is offering a free discussion class on ADJ starting on May 1.

Look under online reading group, and notice that AG is the course creator and will be involved in the discussion.

I have done these type of discussions before, and while sometimes it is easy to get lost in the volumes of discussion, it is a lot of fun, and quite interesting.

Enjoy, and I hope to see some of you there!

OK, I've signed up. The materials for further exploration list includes these two non-AG works:

Jitterbug Perfume is an epic, which is to say, it begins in the forests of ancient Bohemia and doesn't conclude until nine o'clock tonight [Paris time]. It is a saga as well. A saga must have a hero and the hero of this one is a janitor with a missing bottle. The bottle is blue, very, very old, and embossed with the image of a goat-horned god. If the liquid in the bottle is actually the secret essence of the universe, as some folks seem to think, it had better be discovered soon becaused it is leaking and there is only a drop or two left.

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter -- the world's only totally reliable guide to the future -- the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea. If you haven't read this now-classic romp from beloved fantasists Gaiman and Pratchett, you may not be adequately prepared for what's coming.

Anyone here read them?

Good Omens is a wonderful book. I was amazed at how well Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett's styles can blend. The real joy of that book is in the details. At one time I had a list of all the ideas that they used, but it is long gone. I would say more but I do not wish to ruin it for you.

Oh, and if you feel like saving some cash buy the mass market edition (you can probably even find it used), there is no real difference except page numbers and about 4 illustrations.

Though I am planning on getting a hardcover because in the 5 or so times I have read it, and all the lending it to friends a family, mine is trashed. I think it has some staying power, so I want it to last a while. Besides, I have to prove him right that by the time he comes on tour again I will have a huge bag of books for him to sign. Jitterbug Perfume was great! It was the first Robbins book I read, and I quickly devoured all of his other works. I am suddenly feeling the need to pick a couple back up and read them again.

wow, it's a Jitterbug kind of night. Yes, Jitterbug Perfume is my all time favorite book. Good Omen's didn't do anything for me, but I know it's really popular here.

Good Omens is wonderful. Plot in a nutshell: the AntiChrist is born, but due to a mixup at the hospital, he goes home with the wrong family.
