Jeeze. With the internet and all, you'd think that we could just settle for sample readings by authors to be kept publically online (just as the AG has done with audio for some of his books on this site), so that when they go on their tours, they can proceed directly to vitally important stream-of-consciousness without being encumbered by such petty formalities.
That's not to say I wouldn't like to hear the AG read a chapter "live," but I can understand why he would want to avoid it for the sake of interacting more -- well, interactively -- with his "live" audience. _________________ "If you allow yourself to be offended, then you're a bit of [a] nitwit."

I think that the AG is an exception, but many authors do not have engaging speaking or reading voices. I would NOT want to buy a book if I heard some monotone author reading a chapter, making it sound boring or irritating. Even if I had never read any of Chris' books, his charm and hilarity would have made me interested. I wonder how many of the audience members had never read Chris' books, but just happened to wander in during Chris' presentation and were intrigued? Probably quite a few. But to me a reading seems very ordinary, and what he actually DOES do is extraordinary. I love reading other cities' commentaries, because it seems as if he behaved differently depending on his crowd. How exciting! How fresh! How interesting!
So sorry that the new york people were subjected to less than the best he has to offer.

I was trying to inform people before they traveled to find an unexpected situation, not looking for sympathy.

Just read chapter 16 from TSA.
Then use the remainder of your time for discussion. _________________ To Learn is to Know
