It's called Guardian Spirit of the Water -- it's a drawing by Odilon Redon (one of the latecomers to the French Impressionists. He was called "The Artist in Black".)
You can't see it very well at this size, but the little white pointy thing in the lower right of the picture is a sailboat on the sea.

Thanks for sharing that with us. I looked at a few of the others as well. I liked the detail he uses. They were interessting.

Stricktly speaking, I guess he's not an Impressionist. The books refer to him as a symbolist. I first saw his work when the Salon shows of the Impressionists toured in 84, I think, and he was only included in the last year of the eight that they showed -- so I've always associated him with the Impressionists. His later work, when he used color, looks a lot more Impressionistic. His "black" stuff reminds me of Goya.
