Question about Alice proposal  Reply with quote

A cute lady and I are having a certain debate about my proposal for the Alice in New York City. I'm hoping this board can help me with this.

I think that the summary should mention at the beginning that Alice is the same character from Alice in Wonderland. So as not to confuse the Reader when I mention wonderland at the end. The cute lady thinks it's not needed. Especially since I mention Wonderland in the logline and the end of the summary. I can't disagree, cause well she's cute so I come to you guys to disagree for me. :p BTW it's cool if you side with her too. I'll just add you to the list. And no, this list is not like the list on My Name is Earl.

I vote for alluding to it, without saying it outright. And don't worry, I'm not cute at all.

I say that for a proposal, you have to be explicit. Yes to mentioning it at the beginning.

Boo for being unable to disagree with a girl who's cute. Boo.

do specifically mention it. Sadly it seems that today's screenplay evaluators grew up inside small windowless cages and can not infer anything from a treatment or screenplay unless it is explicitly stated. They are also confused by intertwining plots.

Lost in Walmart - I'm going to go right out and say wonderland in the summary no matter what. I can't trust anyone to asume that they know what I'm talking about when half the time I don't even know.

FattyFattyPorkFace - Let me sing you a little song. You can't always get what you want, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need!

In other words, I aint sayin' nothin' yo.

Lynn - I want to mention it twice. Once at the beginning and once at the end of the Summary. She says no to the beginning, yes to the end. Agree with her now?

Ginjg - There is no doubt in either of our minds that I will mention Wonderland specifically. But do I mention it twice in the small summary once at the beginning and once at the end? or just once?

No. Definitely mention it in the beginning, just to set the stage for the story. Mention it at the end to recap.

This is really lame to say, but keep in mind that the most effective communication method is to give people a preview of what you're going to say, then say, then remind them of what you said. Sucks for a story or a movie or what have you, but when you're proposing an idea, you don't have the luxury of time or creative storytelling.

Just my opinion.
