Damn right. Reach-arounds cost extra.

Cultural wasteland of Toledo. Adequate description indeed, though I always found Dayton a bigger wasteland overall. Very Happy

Welcome, and get baking the pie. It'll help.

I love drummers. And I love English majors. They taste like chicken.

Welcome.

You know, I never noticed that-
but since I hate chicken, that would have put me off my feed...

Yeah I've played drums for like... 14-15 years. My cymbals got stolen a short time ago, though, so everything musical is on a bit of an unfortunate hiatus until I can afford to replace them.

What music do you like to play most?

I grew up playing variations of Jazz. I'm a particular fan of the Bebop stuff, a la Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk. Just a few skilled guys, locked in a groove and feeding off of each other.

Anything I've played since then has that kind of sensibility, with the rhythm building a strong foundation, steering the ship, while the melody (guitar, vocals, etc) walk around on top of whatever the rhythm is establishing... not as free as Bebop, and often with a serious rock sensibility (I'm obsessed with Brit-rock from the 60s and 70s).

The problem is, I can't find anyone else with that kind of mindset, at least not in fucking Ohio. Everyone just wants to play AC/DC and Weezer covers.

*sigh*

This is why I miss the Auburn scene so much-
mostly original songs- the most popular cover was "RAPPER'S DELIGHT", strangely enough-
you could find pretty much any kind of music you could think of, though most of it leaned to punk-
but lots of funk, surf, metal, blues- & yeah, you could find jazz fans around there too...

Of course, I haven't seen a band down there in like 9 years... Sad
