Yeah, it's a rare form of Turrets (sp?) exhibiting masochistic tendencies.

N.Y. Times, suit challeneges do-over hearings...
NLEC = No Longer Enemy Combatants, (aka Never Were Enemy Combatants = NWEC, 36 of which are still being held... )

If there is a hearing and they determine the detainee is no longer to be considered an enemy combatant, and the Pentagon doesn't like that answer, they can have another hearing, and another, and another......

I like Turrets. It's when a huge cannon comes out of your head and uncontrollably starts firing at things.

New game...new GAME!!!

I see at minimum, three scenarios.

1) Pull out, leave a total reeking mess. Return the prisoners home.
Apologies and reparations all around.

a) Who gonna pay for that?
b) What do we do when, not if, retaliations occur?
c) What does this say to others that would grind an axe with us?

2) Actually do what, our "objectives" were to begin this whole mess.
One of which, was to:
HELP, these people to establish a government, where all of the peoples
inhabiting the land, can receive equal treatment.

a) Do they even want such a thing?
b) Are they ready to attempt such a feat?
c) Do WE even know how to go about setting up such a government?

3) Prove the America bashers right.
Finish with predjudice, what began so many years ago.
Loose the dogs, kill everything holding a weapon.
Completely subjugate the country and it's populace.
Enforce the age old "Love me or Die" policy.

a) Do we, as a country, possess the necessary will to do so?
b) When done, do we stop there?
c) What will our Allies have to say?

I'm not saying these are the solution.
I am presenting possibilities.
As well as a modicum of the problems that would result from those actions.

I guess I don't get the "let the prisoners go, apologies and reparations all around, who's going to pay for that ?" thing FC.....

I'd have to look up the exact number but something like 400 people have already been in that camp and returned, including the guys interviewed at the end of that pod cast, and there was no apology or reparations to my knowledge, they just got dropped off at home......except for the countries that wouldn't take them back, like the guys in the Albanian refugee camp... to my knowledge 36 people who are not considered enemy combatants are still being held there.... I think they are Chinese muslims or something but they can't send them back because that's not an option, and they won't let them come back here to Washington for some reason........

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2005-08-10-gitmo-renovations_x.htm

Look at the date on that article? What year is it? When are they going to decide to let these guys get on with their lives???

Gee, is there something wrong with apologizing if you make a mistake? Or are we going to wait like sixty years like the Japanese internment camp thing...... Shocked

Politics and religion aside, I feel that it is quite appropriate to lock up people who wear towels/rags on their heads. Bad fashion sense has no place in public. That goes for those pin heads that wear baseball caps at obscure angles also.

Japanese were lucky.
These guys are lucky, they can still harbor the hope
of seeing their families again.
