Juggling hefty balls for beginners!  Reply with quote

So I bought a book at B&N on Saturday that came with three black and green sacks that teaches you how to juggle. Normally I wouldn't but it was half regular price (plus 10% more, thank you membership card).

After three days I'm up to four tosses most of the time. Yay!

Does anyone else juggle? Do you have any advice for a beginner? My main problem is my arms like to throw the balls away from my body. I've tried keeping my elbows straight but so far haven't had much luck.

Thanks!

Well, the thing that helped me learn to juggle was when someone told me this:

Hold your hands out in front of you, palms up. Now visualize a long arrow going up and diagonally from the palm of your right hand, with the tip ending above the palm of your left hand, then vice versa. That's the path the ball should take. Keep your arms out in front of you.

I started out not throwing the balls quite so high because they're harder to control. Just a gentle toss in the air about 2 feet.

Ya know, I just knew that you'd be good at this. Not sure I could take the, "gentle toss in the air about 2 feet" though. Smile

I've got the gentle toss thing down pat. I usually toss them no higher than my forehead. I need to develop faster reflexes because that doesn't leave me much time to keep the pattern going.

I hear ya. After you toss the ball, you have to get that same hand ready to catch another ball immediately. You might spend some time with just one ball - tossing it up and catching it with the opposite hand, but tossing in such a way that you don't have to move the opposite hand very much in order to catch the ball. I find that the more I'm reaching to catch the ball because of a bad toss, the worse I juggle.

I prefer juggling the safe way -- with tethers.

Just sayin'. Cool

I can juggle. Best advice I can give you is to invision a hoop right in front of your forehead that you have to toss each ball through. Keep your eyes on where that hoop is at all times. That will keep the balls close to you and make sure that each toss is the same height.

Pffft, there's your problem, you started with balls.
Try starting with girlfriends.

juggle in front of a bed, that way if you suck you don't have to bend too far to pick them up, and if you REALLY suck you can just take a nap.

Win-Win
