Maybe someone will have it available for download, but I think that would be illegal, so I would never do that nor suggest it nor link it.

It's times like this I hate living in the Mid-West. My local NBC affiliate will be showing "Chicago" instead of the Quills. The fucktard that answered the phone at the local station had no idea what I was talking about and suggested that, "That sounds like something that would be on PBS not NBC." Brilliant! Give Zippy a cookie for that insight. I don't know what I expect living in an area that thinks it needs a new sports complex instead of better schools. Jeez Confused Confused

So, below is some information on exactly which markets are broadcasting the Quills. Before you give up and assume that your affiliate is only broadcasting Chicago, you might want to look beyond prime-time. The show is airing from 7:00-8:00pm in San Francisco.

Though I really have to wonder why. A four-hour awards show has been condensed to about 42 minutes when you take out the commercials. And it's airing on a night and a time that virtually guarantee that no one will possibly view it.

This is how they're going to build an audience for the award itself, and for the telecast? Anyway, pasted below is the best info I have, courtesy of Bookselling this Week.

NBC to Broadcast Quills Awards on Saturday

October 20, 2005

Books, authors, and literacy will take center stage on network television this Saturday, when 14 NBC Universal Owned and Operated Television Stations broadcast a one-hour Quill Awards television special, hosted by NBC's Al Roker and Jane Hanson. The show will feature the winners of the inaugural Quill Awards, which were announced on October 11 at a ceremony hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams at New York City's Chelsea Piers. Jon Stewart and Robert Klein make special appearances and celebrity presenters include Tony Roberts, Matthew Modine, Kim Cattrall, Candace Bushnell, Erica Jong, Anthony Rapp, Stephen J. Cannell, and Jules Feiffer.

The Quill Award winners include Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling, illustrated by Mary GrandPre (Arthur Levine/Scholastic), named Book of the Year; Elizabeth Kostova, named Debut Author of the Year, for The Historian (Little Brown); and The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd (Viking), winner in the General Fiction category. (For the complete list of winners, go to news.bookweb.org/read/3901.)

Scheduled to air the Quills special, this Saturday are:

WNBC (NBC4 New York)
KNBC (NBC4 Los Angeles)
WMAQ (NBC5 Chicago)
WCAU (NBC10 Philadelphia)
KNTV (NBC3 San Jose/San Francisco)
KXAS (NBC5 Dallas/Fort Worth)
WRC (NBC4 Washington)
WTVJ (NBC6 Miami)
KNSD (NBC7/39 San Diego)
WVIT (NBC30 Hartford)
WNCN (NBC17 Raleigh)
WCMH (NBC4 Columbus)
WVTM (NBC13 Birmingham)
WJAR (NBC10 Providence)

(Check local listings for air times.)

Launched this year by Reed Business Information and the NBC Universal Television Stations, The Quill Awards were created to honor excellence in book publishing. A short list of titles was selected by booksellers and librarians from across the country, who chose from among titles appearing on the Book Sense Picks lists or on Barnes & Noble bestseller lists, or those earning a starred review in Publishers Weekly, among other criteria. Voting on the short list was open to consumers online from August 15 through September 15.

WVTM (NBC13 Birmingham) & KXAS (NBC5 Dallas/Fort Worth)
Great, the boys from BAMA get this and I get Chicago. Why do I have this vision of three good'ole boys heading off to Borders after the awards and browsing for "SA" only to be disappointed that, "It ain't got no pictures!?!".

BTW, thanks suetu. I checked the listings for the two weeks following and the closest thing to the Quill Awards is an infomercial on the "Little Giant" step-ladder. Hell, even Chicago doesn't have to sit through "Chicago".

WOW! Suetu,... you ARE the BOMB!! You really got me some good info,... and it turns out I will be in San Antonio TX on Saturday. Maybe I can get a Dallas station on the cable in the hotel?
I'm just curious as to how they put on the show without the winners actually BEING THERE!? Do they just post the stupid pic of Chris in the Santa hat (OHMYGOD I hope NOT!) when he wins the award?? Hope they pick a handsome one like the one he put on the blog from San Fran.
Anyway,... you are great!
Thanks for the help, fansoftheAG!!

I'd bet real money that they won't even mention the Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror award. It will be like the technical awards at the Oscars. I'll be the equivalent of the "best use of duct tape in a non-bondage movie" award.

Sounds prestigious enough to me.
But then again, I like duct tape.
And bailin' wire.
