Editing Proof reading service  Reply with quote

I am contemplating a sideline of proofing/editing services. Here are my questions to all:

1. What would you expect to pay per page for manuscript editing?
2. Just for proof reading?
3. What sorts of qualifications would you expect?
4. Am I nuts for thinking I could make a go of this on a local/regional basis (Southeastern Virginia).

Thanks.

Fuck me! A hundred bucks and hour for ghostwriting?!!! I'm in the wrong business.

Ask Suetu. She's been freelancing for years, working for professional writers.

Please chime in. Please. Separate yourself from monetary concerns and consider the greater reward. If you are an aspiring writer and on the CM boardello, I want/need to hear from you. Thanks!! Any and all opinions are welcome!

You mentioned "name recognition".

That's gotta be worth something right there.

The point is, if you can sell yourself, that's all that matters.

If you want to do it, do it. What do you have to lose?

Lisa, forgive me, I'm afraid I can't justify paying someone else to proofread at this point in my life. I wouldn't be anyone's customer base.

I couldn't stay silent about this though:

Hello, he's publishing the words "burrito spooge" in a novel. What more do you need??

I've often wondered ...  Reply with quote

What it would cost to hire somebody to edit/proofread my novels. I was reading a book yesterday (a published book) and it hed the word "here" instead of "hear." I hate that stuff and you find it all the time in printed novels. You cannot edit enough and a second, third, forth pair of eyes is critical.

That being said, I don't think I would invest the money on my own. If I was going to self-publish, I would for sure. But my ideal would be to get a publisher, and let them edit it. Because at this point (after 3 edits by me, and one by a third party) I just can't see the mistakes anymore. I do know they are there.

Welcome to the circle I just wrote us into. Hope that made sense. I'm off to make peanut butter brownie cupcakes.
