must ultra-conservative parents have in their children's intelligence and the strength of their own indoctrination of their children.

Hearing a speech on the importance of taking responsibility, using good study habits and applying your self academically will sway the minds of ultra-conservative children to socialism? Seriously?

Such parents need to be publicly ridiculed.

I was ready to explode on a coworker today over this issue.

If Zombie Martin Van Fucking Buren wanted to give a speech to our nation's youths, by all means, I'd let him. Why? Cause he was, at one time, voted to be the leader of our country.

From my understanding, hyper-Conservative parents are in a tizzy because of the 'How can you help President Obama?' question.

Guess what? Your kids are still free to answer however they fucking choose.
Your first amendment rights haven't been completely shat upon.

I'd like to hand everyone screaming "SOCIALISM!!" a copy of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle." It's amazing what was considered socialism in the 1890's verses what we accept as common practice now.

"Hey, maybe people shouldn't die in factories where they work? Or maybe they shouldn't be cheated out of their apartment money because of shady deals?"
"STFU, SOCIALIST!!! WHY DO YOU HATE PROFIT!!??"

If your core familial beliefs are based solely in the tenuous hold you have on your child's daily life, then you belief system is flawed. If you are so concerned that your child will choose another core belief system simply by hearing someone speak about it peripherally, regardless of how strongly that person touts a specific rhetoric, then perhaps you should examine the belief system you have enculcated them in.

I ask you, do these people make the same protestations when their children hear Hitler's speeches in history class? Or the teachings of Marx, in that same class? Why then, is it so frustrating for them that Obama has chosen to speak to American students? Could it be that they are frightened that he may MAKE SENSE to their children? That his message of "stay in school" or "be educated" is somehow threatening to their entire existence? Was there honestly a secret socialist message in the speech, and if so, where their children's listening skills so nuanced as to discern it?

Edutards.

I could care less what Obama says to my kids because I know they will listen to me also and make up their own minds.

But . . . how would you be reacting if George Bush wanted to address your kids while he was president? What's that? Exactly the same? My apologies. I thought maybe you'd get all bent out of shape and fear that he would be spewing right wing ideology to your kids.

Shocked Tito, I don't want Bush dressing my imaginary kids, that's crazy talk-
wait, what were we talking about? Confused

Oh right, speeches...
They're only as good as the person giving them & the content
& will stand or fall on their own merits-
why'd ya think the wing nuts are so fucking scared?

They're afraid their precious wittle drones might have enough brains to make up their own minds-
it ain't all DNA, ya know... Razz

No one protested W addressing school children or even going into classrooms. Nor any other president for that matter.

Now Tito, I'd never peg you for an ultra-con. You seem to be rational.

Yes, but George Bush the anti-christ outranks Van Buren the Zombie on the axis of conservative evil scale.

How about we spend the day teaching the children how to read?

If we voted the anti-christ to be president, we should be willing to allow him to say a few words to the kidlets.

Juissez, what nonsense are you going on about?

Back in the times I was in school there was no more boring and useless days than the ones we were forced to the auditorium (aka: gymnasium) to listen to some doucher speak.

Is it too much to ask for the President to not be one of them?

Seems to me like he has a nation to run and that the children have plenty of math, science, history, etc. to learn.

As such the following Presidents need to fuck off:
Obama
Bush (41)
Reagan.

Props to Clinton and Bush (43) for actually doing their jobs, and not partaking in any of this 1984 crap

When I was in high school, the biggest waste of time (every week) was the pep rallies.

I would have told my kids to listen to what he had to say, having no fear that anything out of Bush's mouth would have swayed them to a value set that didn't mesh with mine. But then, I do teach my kids to think for themselves. If they decide to be more conservative than me when they grow up, good for them. I know I teach them to make their own decisions, so I would know that they came to the more conservative viewpoint honestly.

Actually, the younger one was in favor of McCain in the last presidential election, until he picked Palin as a running mate. Even at 10 years old, he could spot the problem. The older one was a Ron Paul fan, until she read the garbage that he'd written in his newsletter back in the day. That's fine with me.

Did I, on some level, demonize Bush when he was in office? Yep, but not til after the Iraq war started. Are these people demonizing Obama, from even before he won the presidency? Yep, and I'm going to bet that for the most part, they don't even understand that they've been fed that line by others.

I guess you were off planet 9/11/01, huh? W also made an appeal to school kids that same year to each collect $1 for the children of Afghanistan.

Clinton made his speech to school kids in '96.

It must have been a very long time since you read 1984, if ever you did. W's administration instituted more 1984 style crap than any other, and with great pride.
