THE HAUNTING IN NORWAY

A powerful knight from the country
Stefán sailed through the fjord
He was a model of chivalry
Who carried a silver sword

The Princess Mikaela summoned him
On a dark, stormy day in June
She asked Stefán to find a jewel
Before the rise of the Blood Moon

The jewel was a blue talisman
Made from precious lapis lazuli
The gem had magical properties
An amulet from antiquity

Stefán had loved Princess Mikaela
Since he was a lowly squire
And so he made a promise to her
He would bring her heart's desire

He rode his horse through the rain
For seven days Stefán traveled alone
Thunder struck and lightning crashed
The woods were forbidding and overgrown

Stefán knew of an old Norse legend
The ghost rider in the dark forest
All the hunters called him Silvanus
He haunted Rogaland in the west

But Stefán had made a promise
One he fully intended to keep
His white stallion galloped onward
In a forest so ghastly and deep

He beheld the fearsome ghost rider
When he approached the wood's end
Silvanus was huge and menacing
Too fearsome to comprehend

Stefán withdrew his silver sword
And he brandished it at the ghost
But Silvanus was undaunted
He followed Stefán to the coast

The ghost rider was clearly immortal
The sword passed right through him
Stefán could not escape the visitant
His outlook seemed quite grim

Silvanus was an almighty being
He dodged every one of the blows
To Stefán the duel appeared hopeless
Till there appeared a dozen crows

The black birds circled Silvanus
And they ridiculed his ghastly form
The crows made him uncomfortable
He was powerless against the swarm

Then the ghost rider vanished
Just as quickly as he appeared
Stefán rode away from the coast
From the encounter dark and weird

He discovered the lapis lazuli
Hidden inside a golden trunk
He remembered his curious childhood
The days when he used to spelunk

He placed the jewel in his pocket
And he rode away from the wood
It would win the heart of Mikaela
The princess would love him for good

The sun finally rose the next day
Stefán to the great castle rode
Then he gave the gem to Mikaela
Like his love, the lazuli glowed

SILVER LIGHT

Underneath the silver light
Cast by the fragile crescent moon
I remember your blue eyes
How easily you made me swoon

We met four years ago
It was a happy accident
Two ships passed in the night
I believed you were heaven sent

Underneath the silver light
A view so fascinating
Your muscular sanguine arms
Holding me in the porch swing

The epiphany of our love
Waxed tempestuous and ethereal
The center of my universe
Our relationship felt so surreal

Underneath the silver light
When you were still mine
Your body improved with age
Just like a fine wine

The desultory affair evanesced
I died inside after you left
Vehemently denied the tragedy
Lugubrious and quite bereft

Underneath the silver light
Beside a marble tombstone
A shell of my former self
As I lie here now alone

ETHEREAL

Sylus had an aura of power
He knew how to take control
And Eleni was his Greek goddess
She possessed a gentle soul

In times of tribulation
Sylus could persuade anyone
His charisma moved people
It burned brighter than the sun

Sylus was a great lover
With darkly sexual needs
Eleni aimed to please him
She braided her hair with beads

He could be quite demanding
With his enormous appetite
He tied her to his bed and
Rode her like a filly at night

When Sylus made love to Eleni
He took her to another world
A magical and ethereal place
Where his energy was unfurled

His tongue caressed her body
Sylus liked to surprise
He teased her sprightly nipples
And licked between her thighs

After the foreplay he swelled
And inserted his manhood inside
He made her moan with pleasure
Eleni would someday be his bride

Nothing could come between Sylus
And his alluring Greek goddess
He could slay a hundred dragons
Or fight the monster of Lochness

Sylus was sent to the battlefield
Twenty years after the Great Flood
He fought the army of Beelzebub
On the edge of the Land of Blood

He survived his hellish mission
But he returned a changed man
He was possessed by a demon
An evil spirit named Pan

Pan was the pagan god of perversion
The source of wantonness and rape
The worst demon of the whole underworld
And from him there was no escape

Sylus lost control of his temper
He became a slave to the god Pan
Every night he abused Eleni
He turned into a terrible man

But Eleni was a wise woman
She searched for Orthodox holy men
The priests performed an exorcism
And Sylus became himself again

Sylus kissed his Greek goddess
And compensated the holy men
Then he married Eleni
Who delivered beautiful children

BROTHERS

When you lose a brother
A part of you is gone
Nothing will bring him back
Somehow you carry on

He was your constant friend
And forever on your side
You grew up together
Your love for him multiplied

You showed him the world
Beyond your own hometown
In sickness or health
Nothing could bring him down

You played games together
You would argue and fight
Then you would work it out
By the end of the night

When others abandoned you
You never felt alone
Your brother telephoned you
When you were on your own

You remember his antics
He made you laugh and cry
The moments you shared with him
Those things will never die

His memory will still live on
Even though he has passed away
He will always be in your heart
He's with you every single day

THE WIDOW

The widow wears her wedding ring
As though her husband is alive
The funeral was years ago
The year two thousand and five

He remains her first love
She visits his grave everyday
There she places roses
The wind scatters them all away

She is living in the past
No interest in other men
Her husband was her angel
So she will never love again

The widow cleans her house
And sweeps her husband's den
She irons his dress shirts
And ignores her children

She is as thin as a waif
With no real appetite at all
Sometimes she forgets to eat
Her writing turns into a scrawl

Her life is more like death
She suffocates in her own misery
Drowning in her sadness
Melancholy for an eternity

DARK HORSE

The dark horse gallops swiftly
He races on into the night
He is a symbol of strength
A beautiful, graceful sight

The stallion is an enigma
And no one knows his sire
His ferocious nature impresses
His limbs are fuelled by fire

The dark horse is untamed
And he will not be ridden
Never is he provoked
He keeps his anger hidden

No one can tie him down
He rules the field and stream
He jumps through the water
Like something from a dream

Power courses though his veins
In his eyes is a gleam
As he climbs the steepest hills
The dark horse reigns supreme

LOVE IS LOVE

If you have similar features
Or resemble ghastly creatures
You are the beauty to his beast
He doesn't judge you in the least
If he's a vampire who drinks blood
Or he just washed up in the Flood
You're a model and he's an athlete
But somehow he makes your life complete
If you are too young for him
Or you met him at the gym
He lives a million miles away
Yet you think of him everyday
If you are his secretary
And commitment makes him wary
He has torn your world asunder
Or he's lying six feet under
If the man you love is married
The torch you have always carried
He makes your heart soar like a dove
Love is real, love is true, love is love

LOVE'S GRAVEYARD

In the graveyard there lie
Dozens of marble tombstones
Symbols of young heartbreak
With dark Gothic undertones

Every stone is a reminder
Of all relationships that fail
Erosion withers the surface
Already scarred by rain and hail

Flowers lie beside the headstones
To mitigate the sting of loss
As if doomed love is beautiful
For everyone who bears the cross

The graveyard is often visited
By all those who were forsaken
Paralyzed by their enduring grief
The immense toll it has taken

No bones lie in the somber field
The stones are merely symbolic
They provide a calm atmosphere
Neither blithe nor vitriolic

The lovelorn pass each other
Treading lightly the sacred ground
There is no conversation
Nobody makes a single sound

Love's Graveyard is a museum
Sadly lit by lanterns opaque
Events too painful to recount
A shrine to eternal heartache

DARKNESS ETERNAL

Joel carved out his own niche
As a writer of horror fiction
His life was picture perfect
He suffered from no real affliction

His charming wife was named Luna
A beautiful, auburn-haired lass
Who always doted upon him
Descended from the upper class

One day Luna went to gather
Wild roses for the banquet table
She journeyed to a nearby field
To pick as many as she was able

The pink flowers bloomed freely
Like underrated precious gems
Their petals enthralled Luna
But they had very prickly stems

Reaching for the closest shrub
She tried to pluck a rose
The rosebush was quite lofty
She stood on her tiptoes

Then Luna lost her balance
She stumbled and quickly fell
Headlong she cascaded down
To the bottom of a well

Joel searched for many days
For his one and only love
He prayed for her safe return
To the powers up above

He never saw his dear Luna again
But he remembered their last kiss
An eternal darkness overwhelmed him
He held a funeral service

Every day was torture for Joel
Without Luna, he was an empty shell
He could never love another lass
And remained alone in his living hell

He wrote books of love and loss
In an attempt to pass the time
There was no joy in his life
Forever bereft in his prime

In the evening he often rambled
To the field where she disappeared
Searchers had removed the mystic flowers
All the rosebushes had been cleared

As Joel stood in the moonlight
He could feel her presence there
Luna's spirit was haunting him
Her pale skin and auburn hair

The encounter mesmerized him
She ascended slowly from the deep well
Her thin ghost was a faint vision
That comforted him in his living hell

A sense of peace surrounded Joel
Because he had nothing to fear
Luna wrapped her form around him
He felt serene with her ghost near

Her spirit vanished gradually
And descended from where she came
Luna belonged to another world
But Joel loved her just the same

THE SIDEWALK PRINCESS

Gavin and Kelsea liked to play
On the sidewalk beside the park
They threw frisbees into the air
Until the horizon grew dark

The children were more like siblings
Best friends since the first grade
They set up a table outside
Where they sold lemonade

In the middle of the summer
Gavin made a grand discovery
A princess lay on the sidewalk
He called out to his friend Kelsea

Gavin and Kelsea admired the form
Carefully drawn in colored chalk
And they were in awe of its beauty
The way it adorned the sidewalk

Every day they stopped to look
At the elegant sidewalk princess
Gavin wanted to marry her
Kelsea coveted her pretty dress

The children picked some crocuses
From the field across the street
Purple flowers for the princess
Which they laid right at her feet

They jumped rope on the sidewalk
Till the yellow-orange sun set
It was the time of their lives
A day they would never forget

Before Gavin and Kelsea cycled home
They said farewell to the princess
Although silent, she was phenomenal
A real vision of loveliness

That night a thunderstorm began
There was lightning all around
Hard rain beat down on the sidewalk
The children were scared of the sound

But the storm was temporary
It left as fast as it came
The next morning the sky was clear
And the world mostly the same

Gavin and Kelsea rode happily
And met in their usual place
But they came upon a tragedy
A scene too difficult to face

Their sidewalk princess was gone
The rain had washed her away
They cried waterfalls of tears
It was quite a dismal day

Gavin and Kelsea held a vigil
And drew crosses with yellow chalk
They never forgot their silent friend
The fair princess on the sidewalk

"Everywhere now reminding me
I am not who I used to be
I'm afraid this has just begun
Consequences for what I've done, yeah
I don't believe it, I had to see it
I came back, I came back haunted
I said goodbye, but I had to try
I came back, I came back haunted"

THE BALLAD OF JOVE AND LEXI

Jove made a promise to Lexi
And for three long years they dated
Because he loved her endlessly
Their milestones were celebrated

They lived together for ages
To both of their parents' chagrin
Marriage was a piece of paper
Not how they wanted to begin

Jove was a sculptor in demand
Lexi painted in her space
Because he loved her endlessly
She made portraits of his face

Jove and Lexi were inseparable
They brought fortitude to each other
The couple owned their own gallery
They complemented one another

Although Jove had found happiness
And Lexi made him feel whole
He suffered from epilepsy
At times he just lost control

He passed away from a seizure
With his eyes open wide
Because she loved him endlessly
She stayed right by his side

Lexi painted his final portrait
Linseed oil on a stretched canvas
Then she laid it beside his casket
At his saturnine funeral mass

Through the cemetery she walked
And she stopped to catch her breath
Because she loved him endlessly
She joined her soulmate in death

THE SKATEBOARD THIEF

Tyler worked for a whole month
At the local grocery store
He saved for a new skateboard
There was nothing he wanted more

He bought his precious skateboard
After he finished all his chores
The one with Luke and Leia
From the original Star Wars

Every night he rode away
To the local skateboard park
Doing slides, twists, flips, and grinds
Until the blue sky grew dark

He always returned home
Around five minutes to ten
Then he parked his skateboard
By his mother's rock garden

Then one day tragedy struck
Right there in the backyard
Tyler's skateboard was stolen
The loss hit him quite hard

No one saw the robbery happen
The neighbors heard no sound
Tyler called up the authorities
There was grief all around

Tyler was depressed for weeks
Without his favorite skateboard
He walked to his part-time job
And on the weekend he was bored

With nothing better to do
He ambled to the skateboard park
From the hill he watched his friends
They were trying to make their mark

Tyler saw a suspicious boy
Who wore a floppy black anorak
His hood was pulled over his head
He carried a skateboard on his back

The boy went to the top of the ramp
And he flipped his skateboard around
Tyler caught a glimpse of the design
Luke and Leia at last were found

Tyler climbed up the concrete ramp
He confronted the skateboard thief
The boy who had ruined his life
And caused him unbearable grief

The thief denied his heinous crime
And he asked Tyler to prove it
Tyler grabbed the edge of the deck
He attempted to remove it

But the villain snatched it away
He told Tyler he was mistaken
A haunted look crossed Tyler's face
An expression of one forsaken

Then Tyler pointed to the tail
Where his initials were written
The knave surrendered the skateboard
Like prey when it has been bitten

Tyler hugged his favorite board
In the park where he got his kicks
He was happy to be alive
And he learned all the latest tricks

The villain was later disciplined
By the local police chief
Because there is never any rest
For a rotten skateboard thief
