I totally agree on the Vonnegut [Cat's Cradle is a masterpiece], but disagree on Joseph Heller -- I didn't care much for Something Happened, but Catch-22 is and always has been one of my favorite books. As John Self said about Something Happened, to me Catch-22 is the book that keeps on giving.

Yeah, I don't know about any of his suggestions. I have weird favorites. But I like the Idea.

For me one of the biggest mistakes of our school system is that we make people read The Grapes of Wrath when East of Eden was the far superior novel. We read Romeo and Juliet instead of A Midsummer Nights Dream. That makes no sense to me. The bulk of Mark Twains best stories are completely overlooked.

But I think this is just one of the symtoms of the dumbing down of our nation.
